As light commercial vehicles become increasingly connected, fleet operators are moving away from fragmented aftermarket systems towards more integrated, OEM-aligned solutions. Against this backdrop, Swedish van solutions specialist Modul-System has taken the Technology Award at the WhatVan? Awards 2026, with judges highlighting its Modul-Connect platform as a notable example of safety-led connectivity for fleet operators.

The recognition reflects a broader shift in Modul-System’s more than 50-year history, from its origins as a van racking manufacturer to a provider of integrated digital solutions for commercial vehicles, as connectivity and data become central to fleet operations.

Kevin Walker, Managing Director of Modul-System UK, said: “Van drivers and fleet managers are under more pressure than ever to operate safely and efficiently. Modul-Connect was developed to remove the clutter and complexity that has built up in modern van cabs… and to do it without adding yet another screen or device. The fact that it works through the vehicle’s own infotainment system means it feels like it belongs there, because it does.”

The system addresses a persistent challenge in the LCV sector: vehicles are often fitted with multiple aftermarket screens, tablets and control systems, creating cluttered and potentially distracting cab environments. Founded in 1970, Modul-System has spent decades developing van conversion solutions and first introduced Modul-Connect in 2017 as a lighting control system, before expanding it into a broader connectivity platform.

Rather than adding further hardware, Modul-Connect integrates control of conversion equipment into the vehicle’s factory-fitted infotainment system via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This approach reduces installation complexity and additional wiring, while supporting a cleaner, more intuitive operating environment for drivers.

Through a single OEM-aligned interface, drivers can manage work lights, cabin and cargo heating, vehicle weighing systems, driving journals and asset tracking. Consolidating these controls reduces distraction and supports improved driver focus, while also enabling fleet managers to standardise systems across vehicles.

Walker added: “Fleet managers get real-time data on vehicle status, maintenance needs, and operational efficiency — all without touching the vehicle’s core electronics, warranties, or safety systems. That matters enormously to fleet procurement teams. Modul-Connect scales from a single van to a nationwide operation, and we’re seeing strong interest from fleets of all sizes.”

The award underlines the platform’s growing presence in the connected commercial vehicle sector, as operators look for solutions that balance safety, integration and operational efficiency. Modul-System will be demonstrating Modul-Connect alongside its wider van conversion range at the CV Show 2026, NEC Birmingham, 22–24 April, on stand 5D44.
